Weeds

I watched a great TV show last night for the first time 'Weeds'. The story of a single mother who turn to dealing pot in order to make ends meet. It had good reviews in the press and after the two episodes I saw last night they were clearly well deserved. Frankly though, I'm suprised that such a blatant portrayal of drug taking (especially considering the 'it's no big deal' message that seemed to come across) ever made it's way into an acclaimed TV series much less one from the US.

Take Heart

A quick surf this morning turned up this URL http://www.tonyhart.co.uk, a childhood icon! Now this is someone who could inspire generations of kids to enjoy art in all forms through his various BBC shows including 'Take Heart'. Much better than that abysmal ITV show 'Art Attack'.

Nice to be part of something

Apparently its official, the UK tops the world in being responsible for 'illegal' Television downloads....

I can see the problem with US shows that are planned to be broadcast at a later date in the UK. Obviously, if people have already seen them then advertising revenue could suffer. However, I'd say that 99.9% of the shows I'm interested in (Japanese TV drama) will never be broadcast in the UK so to my mind nobody is losing out.  If anything the program makers are gaining as their product is being distributed and viewed (free of charge) to audiences they would never otherwise reach. Their work gets known and their reputations built.

Last night I watched the second part of the new Battlestar Galactica mini series. From seeing the first trailers a week or so ago, I was a little dubious about how good it would be. Ok the original was quite cheesy and camp but I enjoyed it enough as a kid to still appreciate it now. I must say that the new mini series, which in four hours covers the story of the original film, was very good. The special effects were quite low key which led to a level of realism/beleivability which the original films and series just do not have these days. I liked the actors choosen to fill the roles of all the classic characters too.

For anyone who remembers the original shows though... there are a few suprises in the casting...

First up, Starbuck is now a woman.

So is Boomer (and very cute she is too) ...

And the Cylons?.... well at least one of the new models anyway... yep, a woman.
